谷维素常用于植物神经功能失调、经前期紧张症及更年期综合征等疾病，近年临床应用表明，谷维素治疗以下几种胃肠道常见疾病也有较好效果。
１．胃溃疡：谷维素具有广谱抗溃疡病作用，对应激性溃疡、幽门结扎性溃疡、精神创伤性溃疡等均有抑制作用。
２．肠易激综合征：又叫过敏性结肠炎。表现为反复性发作的腹痛，排便前加重，便后则减轻，排便量少，常有黏液便。可出现腹泻或便秘交替发作。有人采用谷维素治疗３０例患者，开始每日服谷维素片１００毫克，每日３次，４周后每日２００毫克，每日两次，共服６周后停药，取得良好效果。研究者认为，谷维素通过调节植物神经功能，改善肠道功能和全身植物神经功能失调的症状，使病情缓解。
３．慢性胃炎：是以胃黏膜的非特异性慢性炎症为主要病理变化的慢性胃病。有人用谷维素治疗慢性胃炎７３９例，每日剂量３００毫克，每日服３次，治疗３－４周。结果，总有效率达９２．５３％。
４．胃下垂：胃下垂是指Ｘ线钡餐检查中，发现胃的位置低于正常者。患者可表现为餐后腹胀或无规律性胃病，时而伴有恶心、嗳气、呕吐或便秘等。有人给胃下垂病人口服谷维素，每日７０毫克，用药３周后，自觉症状改善及临床判断好转者分别为７８％和８５％，而服用安慰剂者仅为１４％和５２％。
