Rawat博士的小组研究了每日50IU维生素E、持续2周的治疗方案对4位患风湿性舞蹈病的女孩的治疗效果，女孩年龄在9-12岁之间，并使用修订后的异常不随意运动量表（The Modified abnormal involuntary movement scale，MAIMS）来评定治疗效果。治疗2周后平均MAIMS评分由36下降到17.7。
研究人员认为，风湿性舞蹈病与多巴胺系统的活动过度有关，同时和自由基的神经毒性有关。因此，他们认为维生素E可以降低风湿性舞蹈病患者自由基的损害。此项工作在以前还从未进行过研究。
Rawat博士的研究小组认为，维生素E较风湿性舞蹈病的常规治疗药物更安全，但需要进一步的研究以确定其治疗作用。
