别名 苏罗子、棱罗子、开心果。
来源 为七叶树科植物七叶树Aesculus chinesis Bge.的种子。
植物形态 落叶乔木，高达25m。掌状复叶对生；小叶5～7，长椭圆形或长椭圆形卵形，长9～16cm，宽3～5.5cm，先端渐尖，基部楔形，边缘有锯齿，侧脉13～17对，有小叶柄；总叶柄长。圆锥花序大型；花萼筒状；花瓣4，白色，有爪；雄蕊6，花丝不等长；子房上位。蒴果近球形，顶端扁平，棕黄色，有小突起，熟时3瓣裂，种子近球形。花期5～7月，果期8～9月。
多栽培，少有野生。主产、浙江、江苏、陕西、河南。
采制 秋季果实成熟时采收，除去果皮，晒干或低温干燥。
性状 种子扁球形或圆球形，似板栗，直径1.5～4cm。表面棕色或棕褐色，凹凸不平，略具光泽；种脐近圆形，约占种子面积的1/4至1/2，种脊1条，突起或不甚明显。种皮硬而脆，子叶两片，肥厚，形似栗仁，黄白色或淡棕色，粉性。味先苦而后甜。
化学成分 含七叶搭救甙（aescin）、油酸、硬脂酸甘油酯等。
性味 性温，味甘。
功能主治 理气宽中，和胃止痛。用于胸腹胀闷、胃脘疼痛。
附注 同属植物浙江七叶树A.chinensis var. chekiangensis (Hu et Fang) Fang、天师栗A.wilsonii Rehd.的种子亦入药。
