研究发现，对于V型狼疮肾炎
儿童，mycophenolate mofetil（MMF）可能是一种有效的细胞毒性
药物替代治疗。
研究人员选取11例不同亚型的狼疮肾炎患儿，给予口服MMF治疗，平均剂量22 mg/kg/天，治疗时间为平均9个月。所有患儿同时进行强的松辅助治疗，7例同时服用羟基氯喹。研究人员指出，MMF的治疗指征是大剂量口服或静注强的松、硫唑嘌呤和环磷酰胺无效的难治型肾炎。疗效评估指标是SLEDAI评分、肾脏功能和血清学标记如补体和抗双链DNA抗体。
结果发现，4/4例膜型肾小球肾炎病人肾功能恢复正常，增生型肾小球肾炎的患儿则见效甚微，10例患儿SLEDAI评分显著降低，抗dsDNA抗体和血清补体水平升高，80%的患儿则不变。6/11例（55%）强的松减量而未见肾功能破坏，8例（73%）出现非剂量依赖性的不良反应，包括感染、白细胞减少症、呕吐、瘙痒、头痛和疲劳。
