Google日前已经拟定一项计划，欲利用在线游戏测试数百万游戏玩家的心理，以便用于游戏广告当中。
Google表示，“通过跟踪在线玩家游戏的方式可以帮助收集玩家的个人信息，包括玩家的兴趣爱好和性格类型。我们可以知道玩家是否具有好斗的性格、是否充满敌意、是否诚实等等，这类信息都将被存储起来，用于在线游戏的广告当中。”
然而Google的这一想法却引起游戏玩家的不满，电子竞技团队Open Rights的一名选手Sue Charman表示，“我了解他们（Google）这样做的意图。但是我也可能因为这种方式的心理测试而感到惊慌。”
Google表示，在众多的游戏玩家中，Second Life和魔兽世界（World of Warcraft）的玩家是尤其方便跟踪的对象，因为他们需要经常和其他玩家交流，而且做出的决定可以反映出他们在实际生活中的习性。然后将这些信息用于游戏广告当中，以迎合玩家当时的心理变化。比如如果玩家将大量时间投入探索类型的游戏，系统将显示度假旅游的广告；而如果喜欢聊天的玩家则会看到移动电话的广告。
Google还指出，包括索尼PlayStation、任天堂Wii和微软Xbox等游戏平台的玩家也可以在Google秘密监控的对象行列中。
