18号上午，20多名来自民间的人士在日本驻华使馆前进行抗议示威，要求日本释放因向李登辉投掷汽水瓶而遭拘捕的中国男子薛义。

上午十时，二十多名示威人士在日本大使馆外拉起横额，高叫口号，要求日本释放内地男子薛义，警告日本不要支持台独，并试图将标语贴在使馆铁栏，但被警员阻止，示威者逗留约半个小时，在向使馆代表递交抗议信后，和平散去。

抗议者自称来自中国爱国者同盟和保钓协会，他们表示这次抗议已经得到当局的批准，完全合法，并希望通过示威敦促日本政府早日放人。

抗议者提到的三十四岁内地男子薛义，于当地时间6月9号李登辉访日期间，在成田机场，向其投掷两个汽水瓶，其后被日本警方拘捕
